Build Your Professional Development Path

Over the past 35 years, the professional field of downtown and commercial district management has evolved to require a very distinct set of skills and expertise. The continuing evolution of the profession, driven by ever- changing micro and macroeconomic forces, requires a professional development program that is adaptive and flexible. MSAI offers two distinct certificate programs, culminating in the Main Street America Revitalization Professional credential, the highest credential achievable through MSAI.

Certificate Programs

Community Transformation Certificate

We offer Community Transformation coursework covering a variety of preservation-based community development techniques through the lens of the Main Street Approach.

To earn the MSAI’s Community Transformation Certificate, participants must complete:

- The Community Transformation Workshop
- Two online courses in each subject area: Economic Vitality, Quality Design, Effective Promotion, and Sustainable Organization

Leadership Development Certificate

We offer Leadership Development coursework providing participants with the skills to manage time, relationships, and resources and to effectively lead a broad array of revitalization efforts within both a commercial district entity and the extended community.

To earn the MSAI’s Leadership Development Certificate, participants must complete:

- The Leadership Development Workshop
- Two online courses in Leadership Development

To receive credit toward certificate programs, participants will be required to complete assignments or pass exams in each course. For more information, see MSAI policies.

Main Street America Revitalization Professional Credential

Participants who complete both certificate program requirements are eligible to apply to become a Main Street America Revitalization Professional (MSARP), currently the highest credential achievable through MSAI. To earn the MSARP, applicants must pass a comprehensive final examination ($150) within six months of completing all other MSAI coursework.
